This futurist, pyramid style looking resort definetly stands out as one of the most intriguing resorts in Cancun. It's just 20 minutes from the Cancun airport. The resort staff speaks english and they are very freindly and helpful.
From the outside, you see 5 pyramids that strech the lenght of the resort, each pyramid is capped with a glass dome. Each dome lets the natural sunlight illuminate the interior and helps facilitate the growth of the tropical gardens inside. The main atruim is breaktaking, it streches 9 stories high, it has a fountain surrounded by palm trees and plants all growing from the lower level and hanging tropical plants growing from each floor. The Meliá has a lobby bar that sits between the atrium and the ocean. It has huge windows facing the ocean with comforatable couches and chairs to help you enjoy the live music. The Meliá offers a variety of room types: rooms, deluxe rooms, junior suites and presidential suites. All rooms have two double beds or one king size bed, bathroom, mini-bar, air conditioning and spacious balconies offering a view of either the Caribbean Sea or the Nichupe Lagoon. The resort has 2 pools one on either side of the main pyramid, together they strech the lenght of the resort. The pool area is adorned with growing palm trees, grass and palm huts. One of the pools has a swim-up bar, several little coves with jaccuzzi jets, built in lounge chairs and a kiddie pool area. The other pool offers an area where they have pool activities. The resort's beachfront is quite large, it has plenty of white sand leading down to the warm turquoise colored ocean. They have thatch roof "Palapas" along the beach and waitron service, they even have a beach front bar where you can sit and enjoy a cool drink. The resort has lifeguard service, they monitor the pools and beachfront waters. Be careful, the beachfront has two dangerous areas which are clearly marked with red flags, where there is rocks and/or a good undertow. |

| The resort has 6 restaurants, three of them are indoors. For breakfast, lunch, or dinner try the "Quetzal" is open all day long. They offer a breakfast buffet for $14 or a la carte service, they also have different themes for dinner every night. For dinner, try "La Cascada," it specializes in Mexican cuisine or if you are into Italian food try "Prociutto's,". If you want seafood don't forget to check out "La Perla", it's an outdoor restaurant next to the pool with an ocen view.
The resort can support large groups or conventions since the have a pretty big Convetion Center setup. They have ample room inside or outsite for parties or activities. I can attest to this, while I was there, there was a huge national sales convetions there, they had about 1000 people in attendance. If you are interested in water related activities or tours, you are in luck, the Meliá is located across the street from Aquaworld, where many of the activities start from. |
