>> U.S. airlines announce ease of travel restrictions
in the event of military action or a Homeland Security-issued Level Orange
Alert. All of the major carriers (American, Continental, Delta, Northwest,
United and US Airways) have initiated policies to help customers in the
event of war, each slightly different than the others. In summary, most
airlines are allowing customers to change or postpone their flight plans
without incurring a change fee. Be sure to check the individual airlines'
web site for details on their policy.
>> Be aware that most major airlines (American,
Continental, Delta, Northwest, United and USAirways) have imposed new
ticketing rules. They have implemented a "use it or lose it"
restrictions on their nonrefundable tickets. Meaning once the tickets
are issued, any changes must be made directly with the airline prior to
travel, and will incur a fee of $100. Also any unused portion of a ticket
may not be exchanged for a refund.
>> Unrestricted standby has pretty much been eliminated
by most airlines, while some airline will permit restricted standby with
or without a payment of $100.
