| OCTOBER 2000 >> The government of Aruba has decided shut down the Air Aruba's operations as of Monday, October 23, 2000. (10/23/00) >> A new Caribbean airline, based in Antigua gets ready for take-off. Caribbean Star Airlines will service the Caribbean with destinations in Antigua & Barbuda, Barbados, Dominica, Grenada, Trinidad, St. Kitts/Nevis, St. Thomas, St. Lucia, Tortola, Puerto Rico, St. Vincent, and St. Maarten. They will use a fleet of DeHavilland Dash 8 aircrafts. (10/18/00) >> A Saudi Arabian Airlines plane bound for London was hijacked. Flight 115 had taken off from Jiddah, Saudi Arabia, and was en route to London when it was hijacked. The pilot reported the hijacker wanted to go to Syria. (10/14/00) >> The shareholders of US Airways on overwhelmingly approved the carrier's $4.3 billion merger with United Airlines. The merger would combine the nation's number one and number six carriers. The deal is still need approval from US and European regulators. (10/12/00) |

| SEPTEMBER 2000 >> Pro Air was forced to file for Chapter 11 Bankruptcy after the FAA ordered the carrier to suspend its operations. (9/19/00) >>The Federal Aviation Administration issued an emergency order revoking the operating certificate of Pro Air, Inc. Pro Air is a small airline which operates three 737's out of Detroit City Airport. The FAA said the action was taken because the airline had demonstrated continuing maintenance, oversight, quality control and record-keeping problems. (09/18/00) |

| JULY 2000 >> An Air France Concorde supersonic jet flying from Paris to New York crashed near Charles de Gaulle airport two minutes after takeoff. All one hundred passengers and nine crew members aboard died when the aircraft crashed. Witnesses said one engine was on fire and that a huge cloud of black smoke went up in the air. (07/25/00) |

| JUNE 2000 >> The Federal Aviation Administration announced that it had accepted the Alaska Airlines' airworthiness and operations action plan. The FAA said it would monitor Alaska Airlines for the next 30 days, to ensure that the plan is fully implemented. (06/29/00) >> Four major international airlines announced the launch of the SkyTeam alliance, Aeromexico, Air France, Delta Air Lines and Korean Air. SkyTeams network of strategically located hubs in Latin America, Europe, the United States and Asia will offer travelers multiple departure times on 6,402 daily flights to 451 destinations in 98 countries.
