DECEMBER 2000
>> Las Vegas based National Airlines files for Chapter 11 Bankruptcy protection due to escalating fuel prices. It plans to continue normal operations during it's financial restructuring. (12/06/00)
>> Airbus Industrie announced plans to go ahead with the launch off the A380 aircraft, formerly the A3XX. The new aircraft will seat more than 550 passengers and will be ready for service in 2006. (12/20/00)
>> Up and coming Legend Airlines temporarily suspends scheduled service while it tries to secure additional capital. (12/02/00)

NOVEMBER 2000
>> AccessAir returns to the skies after emerging from bankruptcy court protection. It will initially offer low fare flights between Des Moines and Chicago's Midway Airport. (11/16/00)
>> Air Belgium ceases operations on November 1st 2000. (11/1/00)

OCTOBER 2000
>> The government of Aruba has decided shut down the Air Aruba's operations as of Monday, October 23, 2000. (10/23/00)
>> A new Caribbean airline, based in Antigua gets ready for take-off. Caribbean Star Airlines will service the Caribbean with destinations in Antigua & Barbuda, Barbados, Dominica, Grenada, Trinidad, St. Kitts/Nevis, St. Thomas, St. Lucia, Tortola, Puerto Rico, St. Vincent, and St. Maarten. They will use a fleet of DeHavilland Dash 8 aircrafts. (10/18/00)
>> A Saudi Arabian Airlines plane bound for London was hijacked. Flight 115 had taken off from Jiddah, Saudi Arabia, and was en route to London when it was hijacked. The pilot reported the hijacker wanted to go to Syria. (10/14/00)
>> The shareholders of US Airways on overwhelmingly approved the carrier's $4.3 billion merger with United Airlines. The merger would combine the nation's number one and number six carriers. The deal is still need approval from US and European regulators. (10/12/00)
SEPTEMBER 2000
>> Pro Air was forced to file for Chapter 11 Bankruptcy after the FAA ordered the carrier to suspend its operations. (9/19/00)
>>The Federal Aviation Administration issued an emergency order revoking the operating certificate of Pro Air, Inc. Pro Air is a small airline which operates three 737's out of Detroit City Airport. The FAA said the action was taken because the airline had demonstrated continuing maintenance, oversight, quality control and record-keeping problems. (09/18/00)
AUGUST 2000
JULY 2000
>> An Air France Concorde supersonic jet flying from Paris to New York crashed near Charles de Gaulle airport two minutes after takeoff. All one hundred passengers and nine crew members aboard died when the aircraft crashed. Witnesses said one engine was on fire and that a huge cloud of black smoke went up in the air. (07/25/00)
JUNE 2000
>> The Federal Aviation Administration announced that it had accepted the Alaska Airlines' airworthiness and operations action plan. The FAA said it would monitor Alaska Airlines for the next 30 days, to ensure that the plan is fully implemented. (06/29/00)
>> Four major international airlines announced the launch of the SkyTeam alliance, Aeromexico, Air France, Delta Air Lines and Korean Air. SkyTeam’s network of strategically located hubs in Latin America, Europe, the United States and Asia will offer travelers multiple departure times on 6,402 daily flights to 451 destinations in 98 countries. >> Northwest Airlines is the first airline in the Industry to Compensate for Recovered Luggage. (06/12/00)

MAY 2000
>> American Trans Air to add 47 new Boeing aircraft to it's fleet. The order consists of 37 Boeing 737-800's and 10 Boeing 757-300 aircraft. In addition to the 47 firm aircraft, ATA also received purchase rights for an additional 50 aircraft. ATA will begin taking delivery of the aircraft in the second quarter of 2001, and complete this 47 airplane phase-in by the first quarter of 2003. (05/04/00)
>> JetBlue Airways has waived its advance purchase restrictions for the next two weeks to help stranded Tower Air passengers travel between New York and Florida for $79 each way. (05/02/00)
>> Tower Air announced that it will cease all scheduled flight operations at the close of business on May 1st, 2000. (05/01/00/)
